Changing post types

If you are migrating data from an old site, you might want to convert posts or pages into People bios, Research projects, Course descriptions, or one of the other custom post types available on your site.

The Post Type Switcher plugin gives you two ways to change content types: a new bulk action and quick edit option on your post list screen, and a new post type dropdown in the Publish box on individual post or page editing screens. If the plugin is not already activated on your site, go to the Plugins list and activate it.

On the All Pages screen, simply check the box next to the pages you want to turn into (for example) People profiles on your edit pages screen–and remember, you can see more of them at once by changing the posts per page in your screen options. Then choose Edit from the Bulk Actions dropdown and press Apply. You’ll see the usual Bulk Edit options, with one addition: Post Type.

If you overlook one or two, simply edit those pages and change the post type in the Publish box. Press Update, and you’re done!
