Developer notes on the Blockquote + Cite editing toolbar button

The Blockquote + Cite toolbar button is defined in /js/mce-buttons.js and is added to WordPress’s toolbar in /inc/editor.php. Edit the JavaScript file to change the button’s label, title, or its interaction with the selected or inserted text.

The button’s position is determined in berkeley_pullquote_register_mce_button(). This function:

  1. Copies the first six buttons (bold through normal blockquote) into the $first array
  2. Adds the new blockquote + cite button to the end of $first
  3. Removes the first six buttons from the $buttons array (using array_slice())
  4. Merges the $first and the newly-truncated $buttons arrays
